What does it mean to love yourself? It means to accept yourself exactly as you are – to acknowledge the aspects of yourself that you cannot change. It also means to have a positive self image and self respect.
To love yourself means to NOT be arrogant, conceited or think you are better than anyone else. It means having a healthy regard for yourself knowing that you are a worthy human being.
It is important to remember that no one is perfect.
Every single person holds strengths and weaknesses. We all possess the resources to work on improving ourselves.
Each of us is unique and has specific talents and abilities to contribute to the world.
In order to appreciate yourself it is up to you to discover what makes you special and unique. And to then further develop those talents. We have a responsibility to ourselves to do so.
Don’t waste time waiting for others to accept you. Work on accepting yourself. You are the only “you” that you have. It is in your best interest to be the best you can be.
This is an old saying but very true – “Until you love yourself, you will not be able to love anyone else.” You can only love another to the degree that you do yourself. These are powerful words that apply to all.
How do you love yourself?
Start by working on personal growth and development. Work on being the best you that you can possibly be.
Understand that you are human, but you acknowledge that you have the potential and spiritual capability to rise above whatever conditions and obstacles that may stand in your way.
When you love yourself you make the commitment to take care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. You take care to look and feel your best by nurturing your body, mind and spirit.
If you haven’t been loving yourself lately, I suggest starting in square one. Asses what you are eating, how you are moving and what are you thinking about?? You will not only become more self-aware, you will generate feelings of worth and accomplishment.
The best way to care of your body by eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep. What are you starting your day with? Are you eating enough vegetables? Are you drinking enough water? Are you confident with your food choices?
Your mind needs nourishment and exercise too. Don’t take it for granted. Stimulate it by learning about new and interesting things. Do you read? Take classes? Play an instrument?
Keeping your mind active helps prevent certain old age diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
If you take care of your mind and body but neglect your spirit, you will lack balance and feel that something is missing in your life. Taking care of your spirit rejuvenates you, and helps you deal with the daily stresses and challenges of everyday life. Being spiritual doesn’t necessarily mean being “religious” spirituality means different things to different individuals. Explore what this means for you.
When you love yourself, you invest in all of the above. You are setting yourself up the be the best YOU that YOU can be. You will be living life to your potential and enjoying the journey which in my opinion, is what living life is all about.
